Press-On Nail Size vs Length: What’s the Difference?

Ever measured your nails, found your perfect press-on size, then wondered why they look much shorter — or longer — on you than they did in the photo?

There’s a simple reason: nail size and nail length are two different things.

1) Your press-on nail size is about width

At Fette, our XS–L sizing refers to the width of your natural nails, measured from sidewall to sidewall.

But nail-bed length can vary hugely from person to person. You can have narrow XS nails with naturally long nail beds, or wider nails with very short nail beds. That means two people can wear the exact same Fette size while the press-ons look completely different on their hands.

2) So where does length come in?

This is why we offer Fettes in different shapes and lengths — from our shortest, everyday styles to longer almonds.

Think of it this way: Width determines your size. Length determines your look.

If you have naturally long nail beds, a Short style may sit much closer to your fingertip than it does on someone with shorter nail beds. You might therefore prefer a longer shape — even if you’re an XS. And vice versa: having wider nails doesn't mean you need longer press-ons.

3) The same press-on can look completely different

4) How to choose your Fette

First, measure your nail width to find your Fette size.

Then choose your preferred shape and length separately. If you’re unsure, you’ll find individual nail-length measurements in the Product Details dropdown on each product page, so you can compare them with your natural nails before ordering.
