How to Remove Press-On Nails Without Damage - and Reuse Them
One of the biggest advantages of press-on nails is that they shouldn't require acetone, electric drills or sacrificing your natural nails just to take them off.
If you've applied your Fette press-on nails with our jelly tabs, removal should be quick, gentle and damage-free - provided you resist the overwhelming temptation to simply yank them off.
Here's exactly how to remove your press-ons safely, clean off the jelly tabs, and get them ready to wear again.
How to Remove Press-On Nails Safely
Removing press-on nails isn't about strength. It's about patience and a tiny amount of skill.
Step 1: Wait until they're naturally ready
Jelly tabs are designed to hold securely, but not forever.
If your nails still feel rock solid after only a day or two, it's usually best to leave them on a little longer rather than forcing them off.
The easier they come away, the healthier your natural nails will remain.
Step 2: Start from the side
Using the cuticle stick included in your Fette toolkit, gently slide the pointed edge underneath one side of the nail.
Avoid pushing directly from the cuticle.
Instead, work slowly around the sides, lifting the adhesive little by little.
Step 3: Wiggle, don't pull
Once the edges begin lifting, gently wiggle the nail from side to side.
As the jelly tab releases, the nail should lift away with very little resistance.
If it feels like you're having to use force...
Stop and repeat step 2.
What If a Press-On Nail Won't Come Off?
Sometimes one stubborn nail decides it's staying.
That's completely normal.
Rather than pulling harder:
- Gently lift around a different edge.
- Work the cuticle stick slightly deeper underneath the jelly tab.
- Continue loosening the adhesive gradually.
Think of it like peeling a sticker off glass.
Slow is much better than fast.
How to Remove Leftover Jelly Tabs
Once your press-ons are off, you'll usually notice the jelly tabs may have remained attached to either:
- your natural nail, or
- the back of the press-on.
Simply roll the adhesive away using your fingers or the cuticle stick.
Most residue comes away in one piece without needing acetone.
If a tiny amount remains, rubbing gently with an alcohol wipe usually removes the rest.
How to Clean Press-On Nails for Reuse
One of the best things about quality press-ons is that they're designed to be worn again.
After removing the old jelly tabs:
- Remove any remaining adhesive.
- Wipe the back of each nail with an alcohol wipe.
- Make sure they're completely dry.
- Place each nail back onto its original backing card.
Keeping every nail in its correct size makes your next application take only a few minutes.
