How Long Do Press-On Nails Last?

At our London pop-up, “how long do they last?” was one of the most common questions - until people experience Fette in person.
Quick Answer: High-quality press-on nails can last anywhere from a day to over a week. It depends on how well you prepare your nails, your daily activities and the adhesive you use. With proper preparation, many people are surprised by how long modern handmade press-on nails stay on.
"How long do press-on nails last?"
It's probably the question we're asked most often.
The honest answer?
Anywhere from a day to over a week.
We know that's not the exciting answer you were hoping for, but we'd much rather tell you the truth than promise every set will last exactly seven days.
Preparation Is Everything
If there's one thing that makes the biggest difference, it's preparation.
Natural oils, moisturiser and even tiny traces of water make it harder for the adhesive to bond properly. Spending 10–15 minutes preparing your nails before application can dramatically improve how long your press-ons stay securely in place.
The key question is: have you thoroughly cleaned your nails to ensure they are free from any dust or oil residual? Make sure to use two or more alcohol wipes to clean your nails, as one for both hands is certainly not enough. If you want extra hold, gently buff your nails before wiping them clean. Make sure they are completely dry before you apply the tabs (this may take longer than you think!) and DO NOT touch the tabs once the protective film is peeled off.
We've had customers "yolo" an application and lose a nail on the same day.
We've also had customers wear the same set comfortably for over a week and DM us asking "how do I get them off??"
The difference is almost always preparation.
Your Nails Don't Live in a Bubble
Life happens.
If you're opening parcels, lifting weights, gardening or using your nails as tools (please don't!), they'll naturally come off sooner than if you're mostly typing, heading to the office or going out for dinner.
They're nails - not tools. 😀
Not All Press-Ons Deserve the Same Reputation
One reason wear time varies so much is that not all press-on nails are made the same.
Many lower-cost press-ons are machine-made using thinner materials that flex more easily and don't always fit as well.
At Fette, every set is individually hand-painted by skilled nail artists using real gel. Better fit, stronger structure and a salon-quality finish all contribute to a more secure, comfortable wear.
What We See in Real Life
At our recent London pop-up, one of the biggest surprises for first-time customers wasn't how long the nails lasted - it was that they lasted at all.
Many people arrived assuming a press-on nail would fall off within hours.
Instead, they came back telling us they wore them through work, hair washes, weekends away, a swim in the sea and everyday life.
Others removed them after just a few days - not because they needed to, but because they fancied a different design.
And that's our favourite part.
Traditional manicures teach us to make one decision and live with it for three weeks.
We don't think beauty has to work like that.
So, How Long Do Press-On Nails Last?
Usually somewhere between a few days and over a week.
But that's only half the story.
The real beauty of handmade press-on nails isn't that they can last for days.
It's that they don't have to.
Wear them for a wedding. Wear them for a holiday. Wear them for a week. Change them because you're bored. Take them off because you miss your natural nails.
We think beauty should fit around your life - not the other way around.
xoxo, Team Fette
